ABOUT THE EPISODE
You may well get nightmares after listening to this episode as we discuss some of the most terrifying and tenacious bad guys of all time, and ask who’s the best horror villain? The gruesome candidates include Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Vorhees, Leatherface and Pennywise. The winner of the public vote is revealed at the end of the show. Debating the dastardly deviants is host Sandro Monetti and a quartet of scream queens. Dee Wallace Stone may be best known for her portrayal as the mother in E.T. but she has also starred in a string of horror classics like The Hills Have Eyes, The Howling, Critters and Cujo. She is joined by Tiffany Shepis, Tiffani Brooke Fest and Kelli Maroney who recall all the best and most memorable ways they have been killed on screen. Actor Monty Bane also contributes with his tale of quite possibly his most bizarre death scene in a horror movie.
You Wouldn’t Want to Meet This Guy on a Dark Night…or Anytime!
by Sandro Monetti, host, Who’s the Best Podcast

Here’s a trivia question for you to ponder, which horror movie character has killed more people than any other in screen history?
There’s no shortage of candidates – not least the contenders for the title in this week’s podcast episode, Who’s The Best Horror Villain?
Let me give you a clue to the identity of the gruesome slasher who holds the most kills, with a body count of 158…
This one-man killing machine loves to slash and hack victims with his trusty, rusty machete and is rarely seen without his signature white hockey mask.
That’s right, it’s Jason Vorhees of the Friday the 13th franchise.
What’s even more impressive is that he wasn’t even the main villain of the first film, released in 1980. Instead it was his mother, Pamela Vorhees, dispatching a bunch of victims in that one, including a young Kevin Bacon who was bumped off with an arrow through the neck.
But Jason made up for lost time in Friday the 13th, Part 2, embarking then on his record- breaking killer rampage which has stretched over 13 films.
During his screen killing career, Jason has turned up everywhere from outer space to the depths of hell, he’s fought Freddy Krueger and massacred his victims using a variety of weapons, branching beyond his trademark machete. He’s also used meat cleavers, hacksaws, pitchforks and axes along with his own fists.
The character has superhuman strength and regenerative powers, which certainly make him hard to defeat.
The role has been played by several actors over the years, many of them stuntmen, but the one most closely identified with the role is Kane Hodder who has played the part in four films and become a favourite with fans. Hodder really embraced the role and even has the word “kill” tattooed on the back of his bottom lip.
He has also been protective of Jason’s image, refusing to film a scripted scene in Jason Takes Manhattan where Jason kicks a dog. Hodder explained that while Jason had no problem killing humans, he would never hurt an animal.
So Jason stands alone as the deadliest horror villain. But does that make him the best? You’ll have to listen to the episode to find out the result of the public vote at the end.
It was so much fun speaking about the horror world with the guests on this episode, including scream queens Kelli Maroney, Tiffany Shepis and Tiffani Brooke Fest who are firm friends and clearly have a lot of love for the genre in which they have made their names. It’s also great to learn that films that are so scary to watch, are so much fun to make.
